Why am I passionate about this?

I began writing after reading multiple novels and watching the masters unfold stories page after page. With a background in homicide (working them, not committing them) and the move to forensics, a homeless man’s murder prompted me to write my first novel after I identified the deceased by skin removed from his thumb. I was hooked. Experience in the medical examiner’s office taught me how inciting incidents develop into an abundance of mystery, suspense, and thrills. It’s never as bad as it seems; it’s worse. The dead, unlike witnesses, tell the truth about what happened. More ingenious ways to die than ever imagined. This is why I write.

The books I picked & why

Book cover of Those Empty Eyes: A Chilling Novel of Suspense with a Shocking Twist

Steve Rush Why I love this book

The story’s opening reminded me of how a normal night can turn into bedlam and worsen when the crime scene convinces the police the lone surviving family member committed the crime.

I appreciated the way the author relayed the character’s emotional journey. The main character resonated with me as she sought the truth and came across to me as relatable and likable.

Book cover of A Wicked Snow

Steve Rush Why I love this book

The reality of the scene described by the author resonated with me in ways only someone who has witnessed similar events can appreciate.

I saw myself amid the carnage, questioning the investigators, sensing the emotional turmoil of survivor’s guilt, and wanting the guilty punished. I empathized with the victim who endured years of waiting for the satisfaction of justice.

By Gregg Olsen ,

Book cover of Last Seen

Steve Rush Why I love this book

This is one story I knew would enter my must-read category upon reading the blurb.

I admit this is one of the best stories I’ve read in the past five years. I related to the main character in many ways, especially related to her job and issues. I found it impossible to distinguish between lies and truths.

I loved it from the first page to the last sentence.

The more I know about Mike, the better I like him and the manner in which he relates with others and takes care of business In Romeo’s Truth. If asked to choose a character in whom I believe is worthy of the title “everyday hero,” I believe I would say, Mike Romeo.

Book cover of Remain

Steve Rush Why I love this book

I enjoyed Remain.

I had no inkling where the story was headed when I began reading. The author took me on an amazing journey full of mystery and intrigue and introduced me to characters I liked, and ones in whom I could not trust to tell the truth.

This was one page-turner of a story. I wanted to continue long after the last chapter. A sequel perhaps?
